In collaboration with world-renowned artist Tina Yu, FKB produced over 100 limited edition sculptures for Toyota's Year of the Rabbit campaign. Beginning with an initial 3D printed version of the sculpture, FKB made molds and poured resin to create each replica. Our team worked closely with the artist to refine the mold-making and resin casting process, culminating in an impressive final product. The sculptures were then painted and affixed to Toyota-branded placard stands, delivering an impactful message with their striking visual appeal.
To produce accurate replicas of Tina Yu's sculpture, FKB used a technique called mold making. Initially, we used a 3D printer to make an exact copy of the artwork. This served as a template to create a silicone mold, which we then covered with a plaster cast known as a "mother mold,” which would maintain the shape of the silicone mold while the resin cured.
To expedite the production of 100 sculptures, we made six mother molds using this process. After assembling the molds, we carefully poured white semi-rigid urethane resin into them and waited for the resin to cure and harden. Once the replicas were ready, we prepared them for finishing, painting, and assembly onto the Toyota placard stands.
This project presented a unique challenge for our team, and we are proud to have successfully replicated Tina Yu's distinctive sculpture. Throughout the process, we gained valuable experience in mold-making and production techniques, and we are grateful for the opportunity to hone our skills.
