The Hatchery

Fabrication, Installation
Fairmount Water Works
Philadelphia, PA
2017

FKB joined an illustrious group of artists and craftspeople to create this interactive exhibit at the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center in Philadelphia. Sponsored by a two-year grant from the Pew Center for the Arts and Heritage and a one-year capital grant from the McLean Contributionship, the resulting installation continues to function as a freshwater mussel restoration facility within the Delaware River watershed, the first of its kind in the region. This “site-specific living enclave” also provides innovative educational opportunities to guests of the Mussel Hatchery, which our team heavily contributed to in both design and fabrication.

Elements our team supplied include fabrication and installation of multiple semi-transparent divider walls, design and construction of information kiosks and seating, and the construction of an interactive tile wall where guests of all ages could trace plant shapes found in the Delaware River watershed.
